Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
Oxygen in air is required for burning. We can prove this with the help of a small activity. Take two candles and light them. Place both candles on a platform and cover one of the candles with an inverted glass. The candle which is not covered with glass will keep on burning but the candle which is covered with an inverted glass will extinguish after some time. This is because the candle which is not covered is getting continuous oxygen supply hence, it is burning. But the candle which is covered with an inverted glass burns for some time as it utilises the oxygen which is trapped in the inverted glass. Once all the trapped oxygen is used up, the candle extinguishes. So, this proves that oxygen is required for burning.
