Absorption is a mode of nutrition where an organism obtains energy and nutrients by taking in food through its body surface. This mode of nutrition is most commonly associated with heterotrophic organisms, which obtain their energy and nutrients by consuming other organisms. Eg: fungi. This mode of nutrition is in contrast to autotrophic nutrition, where an organism produces its own food through processes such as photosynthesis or chemosynthesis.
