This is due to when sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are emitted into the atmosphere they are transported by wind and air currents. The sulphuric dioxide and nitrogen oxide react with oxygen, water and other chemicals as a result of which nitric acids and sulphuric acids are formed which makes the rain acidic.
