Air-conditioner supplies cool air. The cool air is denser than hot air, so this cool air shifts downward, which is why the A.C. is installed at a height. If the A.C. is installed at a low level, then cool air will not be able to cool the whole room because it becomes limited to areas near the floor. Warm air is much lighter than cold air; the cold air from the air conditioner moves downwards while the hot air in the room moves upwards. The hot air is again cooled by the air conditioner and comes downwards. This process is repeated to cool the room.
