Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
The Arab cartographer Al-Idrisi created Map 1 in 1154 AD. The portion of his larger world map that is reproduced here is a detail of the Indian subcontinent. In the 1720s, a French cartographer created Map 2. Despite covering the same territory, the two maps are very different from one another. Where north India should be located is in south India on the map, Idrisi's, and the island at the top is Sri Lanka. On the map, Arabic place names are marked, and some of them are well-known, such as Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh (spelt on the map as Qanauj).
