Aluminium, zinc, and iron react with steam but not with cold water because they produce oxide when they react with steam and are highly reactive, which is why they do not react with cold water. Because of the presence of a thin layer of aluminium oxide on its surface, aluminium does not react with water under normal conditions. For example:
2Al (s)  +  3H2O (g) →Al2O3 (s)  +  3H2 (g)
Zn (s)   +   H2O (g) → ZnO (s)   +  H2 (g)
