The material through which light cannot pass and an object cannot be seen through it is called opaque material. For example – stone, and cardboard. The material through which light passes partially and an object can be seen but not very clearly is called translucent material. For example – muslin cloth. An opaque white paper can be converted into translucent paper by dropping some oil on it. Oiled paper is a translucent material as we can see through it but not very clear as light passes through it partially.
