Detailed Solution

The above statement is True.
Carbon dioxide and water vapour absorb infrared radiation coming to the Earth and partly reflect it back to the Earth's surface, due to which the Earth's surface gets heated up. This phenomenon is called the greenhouse effect. This is a naturally occurring phenomenon responsible for heating the Earth's surface and atmosphere. The greenhouse effect helps to maintain the temperature of the Earth. But when the amount and number of greenhouse gasses increase in the atmosphere, it results in a phenomenon known as global warming. Any gas that absorbs infrared radiation/net heat energy emitted from the Earth's surface and re-radiates it back to the Earth's surface, contributing to the greenhouse effect, is a greenhouse gas. Carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapour are the most important greenhouse gases.
