Ethene on reaction with hydrogen in the presence of nickel catalyst will give C2H6  and this type of reaction is known as addition reaction because here the addition of hydrogen takes place in the newly formed compound. At around 150°C, ethane reacts with hydrogen in the presence of a finely divided nickel catalyst. Ethane is created. This reaction is largely pointless because ethene is a far more useful compound than ethane.
