Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
Caste discrimination issues started to be written in several printed tracts and essays in India in the late nineteenth century. In his Gulamgiri (1871),  Jyotiba Phule, Maratha pioneer of "low caste" protest movements, discussed the evils of the caste system. The writings of B.R. Ambedkar in Maharashtra and E.V. Ramaswamy Naicker, well known as Periyar, in Madras throughout the 20th century on caste were read throughout India. Local protest groups and sects also produced several popular journals and tracts that attacked ancient texts and envisioned a more egalitarian future. Hence, the statement is true.
