The above statement is true. Gandhiji launched a nationwide Satyagraha against the proposed Rowlatt Act in 1919.
Despite the Indian members of the Imperial Legislative Council combining in opposition, the body had hastily approved this Act. It granted the government the authority to suppress political activity and permitted the two-year detention of political detainees without charge. Mahatma Gandhi called for nonviolent civil disobedience beginning on April 6 with a hartal opposing such unjust laws. Numerous cities organized rallies, railroad workshop workers went on strike, and businesses shuttered.
