We have been given a quadrilateral ABCD.
Question ImageWe know that the sum of the lengths of any two sides of a triangle must be greater than the length of the third side.
In triangle AOB, we have,
AB<OA+OB(1)   In triangle COD, we have,
CD<OC+OD...(2)   In triangle AOD, we have,
DA<OD+OA(3)   In triangle COB, we have,
BC<OC+OB...(4)   Adding equations (1), (2), (3), and (4), we get,
AB+BC+CD+DA<OA+OB+OC+OD+OD+OA+OC+OB AB+BC+CD+DA<2OA+2OB+2OC+2OD AB+BC+CD+DA<2(OA+OC)+2(OB+OD)                          (5)  
From figure,
OA+OC=AC and OB+OD=BD.  
Therefore, from equation (5), we have,
AB+BC+CD+DA<2(AC+BD)  
Therefore, the given statement is true.
Hence, option (1) is correct. As a result, PM stands for altitude.
