We know that the density of a substance is the ratio of its mass to its volume. By knowing the density of the substance, we can determine whether the substance will float or sink in a given fluid. When the density of the fluid is greater than the density of the substance, the substance will float, and when the density of the fluid is less than the density of the substance, the substance will sink into the fluid.
So,

density = \frac{Mass}{Voulme}

The mass of substance,

m = 50 g

volume of the substance,

v = 20 c m^{3}

,
density of water

= 1 g c m^{- 3}

So, the density of substance

= \frac{50}{20}

\Rightarrow = 2.5 g c m^{- 3}

Hence, as the density of a substance is greater than the density of water, the substance will sink in water.
