Prism P2 is called recombination prism. An experiment is conducted by Newton. Newton took two prisms, P1 and P2, of the same material and having the same refracting angle. He passed light through a slit which fell on the prism P1. And he obtained a spectrum (VIBGYOR) on the white screen.
Question ImageAs shown in the figure, he removed the white screen and placed a second prism,P2, in an inverted position. The light coming out of Prims P2 was almost white. This experiment proved that prism P1 dispersed white light; this prism is called dispersing prism.
