The British physicist Sir James Chadwick is credited with the discovery of neutrons in the year 1932. James Chadwick bombarded beryllium (Be) atoms with alpha particles. As a result, an unknown radiation was produced. He interpreted that this radiation is composed of particles having a neutral electrical charge and the approximate mass of a proton. This particle became known as the neutron.
