Mahatma Gandhi started the salt march from Sabarmati Ashram for Dandi, the coastal town of Gujarat, on 12th March 1930. When he reached Dandi, Gandhi broke the salt law by boiling the seawater and manufacturing salt on 6th April 1930. Also, the beginning of the civil disobedience movement was marked by this Dandi march. With the spreading news of the movement, people started boycotting foreign clothes, peasants refused to pay revenue and chowkidar taxes, village officials resigned, and forest people violated laws in many places. However, Mahatma Gandhi, along with all the other leaders, was arrested by the British government. Hence, the statement is true.
