Malachite, a minor ore but a common copper mineral, basic copper carbonate, Cu2CO3(OH)2. Malachite is a prospecting guide for copper because of its distinctive bright green color and presence in the weathered zone of nearly all copper deposits. Cuprite is a copper ore that is an oxide mineral composed of copper(I) oxide Cu2O. Its dark crystals with red internal reflections belong to the isometric system hexoctahedral class, and can be found in cubic, octahedral, or dodecahedral forms, or in combinations of these.
