The above statement is True. Many of the Indian reformers believed that to improve the status of women, education for girls was essential. Schools for girls were established by Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar in Calcutta and numerous other reformers in Bombay. Schools for girls were started by the Arya Samaj in Punjab and Jyotirao Phule in Maharashtra in the later part of the nineteenth century. Muslim women from Aligarh, including the Begums of Bhopal, started a primary school for girls in the early 20th century. Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain was another remarkable woman who founded schools for Muslim females in Patna and Calcutta.
