Jawaharlal Nehru started touring the villages in Awadh in June 1920, speaking with the locals and attempting to ascertain their complaints. The Oudh Kisan Sabha was established in October under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru, Baba Ramchandra, and a few others. Over 300 branches had been established in the nearby villages in less than a month. The Congress, therefore, worked to include the Awadh peasant protest into the broader struggle when the Non-Cooperation Movement started the following year.
