Root pressure is required for transportation in plants. Root pressure is the hydrostatic pressure generated in the roots of plants by osmotic pressure in the root cells. This pressure helps to drive water and other ions from the soil into the plant's vascular tissue called the xylem. This process is known as root pressure-driven flow and is responsible for the movement of water and minerals from the roots to the upper parts of the plant. However, root pressure is not the only mechanism responsible for the movement of water and minerals in plants. Transpiration, the loss of water vapor from the plant's leaves, also plays a significant role in transporting water and minerals throughout the plant.
