Raziyya faced many problems when she ascended the throne.
Raziyya, the daughter of Sultan Iltutmish, ascended to the throne in 1236. She was more competent and qualified than all of her brothers, according to the historian of the time, Minhaj-i Siraj. However, he did not feel at ease with a queen ruling. He believed that the queen's reign violated God's intended social order, in which women were supposed to be subordinate to men. She tried to reign independently, which didn't please the nobles. In 1240, she was removed from the throne.
