Detailed Solution

Yes, the above statement is correct. The Red and yellow soil is found in the eastern and southern parts of the Deccan plateau. It develops on crystalline igneous rocks in areas of low rainfall and warm temperature. The top layer of red soil is sandy and porous, containing thin organic and organic-mineral layers of highly leached soil. It gets its red colour due to the diffusion of iron in crystalline and metamorphic rocks. Proper fertiliser use and irrigation can yield high production of cotton, millets, wheat, rice, potato etc. It covers about 10% of the total geographical area. It is found in regions such as Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and some parts of Karnataka and Maharashtra, Aravallis, and eastern Rajasthan, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Meghalaya.
The correct statement would be that red soils are found in the Thar Desert.
