The process in which bigger particles are separated from fine particles by using a sieve is known as sieving. Once the mixture is passed through the sieve, the bigger particles are retained in the sieve, and the finer particles pass through the holes of the sieve and are collected eventually. When a mixture of rice and sand is sieved, the fine particle of sand passes through the holes of the sieve and the rice is retained in the sieve. Hence, rice from sand can be separated by sieving.
