Shadow is not obtained when the screen is away from the object. For example, the shadow of an aeroplane flying high in the sky is not seen on the ground. Because planes fly at high altitudes and the ground acts as a screen for shadow formation. And in this case, the ground is far and in absence of a screen, shadow formation does not take place.
