Fabrics are of two types- natural fibres and synthetic fibres. Natural fibres are those fibres which are obtained from plants as well as animal sources. Cotton and jute are obtained from plants. Wool and silk are obtained from animals. Silk is an animal fibre as it is obtained from the cocoon that is built by the silkworm. The cocoon is made of the fine filaments secreted by the silkworm from the two glands on their heads. The filaments are taken from these cocoons through a process known as reeling, and then a few filaments are twisted together to form a silk fibre.
