Sodium is a chemical element with the atomic number 11 and the chemical symbol Na. It is a delicate, silvery-white metal that is exceedingly reactive. The forces between atoms of sodium are very weak. This atom is present in group 1 and has one electron in the valence shell. The metallic bonding in Sodium is not so strong, thus it can be cut down by using a knife. When oxygen in the air interacts with freshly cut sodium, it changes from bright to greyish-grey.
