The silkworm produces fine filaments. The silkworms deposit these filaments around them in figure eight. The cocoon is put in boiling water to loosen the filaments. The filaments are removed through a process known as reeling. Several filaments are twisted together to make a substantial thread wound on a reel. These strings are then twisted, plied and rewound together to form strands of yarn. Then it is dyed and woven into silk fabric.
