In this reaction, an iron nail is first dipped in copper sulphate solution, and then a brown coating of copper is formed on the surface of the iron. And the colour of the copper sulphate solution changes from blue to pale green. The reaction shows iron is more reactive than copper because it displaces copper from the copper sulphate solution.
Also, iron displaces the copper from its salt and forms a subsequent salt of ferrous sulphate. This is an example of a Displacement reaction.
