Detailed Solution

The above statement is false.
The maps of the subcontinent by the Arab geographer Al-Idrisi and by a French cartographer were quite different.
Sri Lanka is the island at the top of al-Idrisi's map, which places south India where one would expect to see north India. A few well-known place names, such as Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh, are marked in Arabic (spelt on the map as Qanauj).
Nearly 600 years after Al-Idrisi, a French cartographer produced a map, when the knowledge of the subcontinent had significantly changed. The coastline regions, in particular, are detailed on this map, which has a more familiar appearance. On their journeys, European merchants and sailors consulted this map.
