Any light that gives the same spectrum as sunlight is often referred to as white light. The division of white light into its constituent colours is called dispersion. When white light is passed through a glass prism, it splits into its colour spectrum(in order violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red), and this process of splitting of white light into its constituent colours is called dispersion.
