The silk route is an example of pre-modern trade. This route was used until almost the 15th century. The ancient network of trade routes was made by Chinese silk cargoes, which connected East and West, stretching from the Korean Peninsula and Japan to the Mediterranean sea. Through this route, Chinese pottery travelled far and wide to different parts of the world. Textiles and spices were carried along these routes to North Africa and Europe from South East Asia. Along the silk route, precious metals like silver and gold flowed to Asia from Europe.
