When white light passes through the prism, it scatters into seven different colours as VIBGYOR. In these seven colours, the wavelength of light increases from left to right. The violet colour has the minimum wavelength, and red light has the maximum wavelength. The wavelength of light is directly proportional to the speed of light. Therefore the violet colour has the minimum velocity, and red light has the maximum velocity when it passes through the glass. Similarly, all the different colours of light have different speeds in the glass prism.
