Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
Two identical prisms can be placed in such a way that a narrow beam of white light incident on one prism emerges out of the second prism as a white light. This experiment is done by using two identical prisms P1 and P2 . Both the prisms are made up of same material and are having same refractive index A. The prisms P1 and P2 are arranged in such a way that P1 is upward and P2is down ward as shown in figure1. Sunlight from a narrow slit 'S' is made to fall on prism P1. The prism  P1 has its base down ward so it will disperse light into its constituent colours (i.e. VIBGYOR). The dispersed light will get deviated towards the base of prism while emerging out. The dispersed light coming out of  P1 enters  P2. Inside prism  P2 all dispersed light is combined together as the prism  P2 is placed in inverted position. The recombined light emerges out of prism  P2 as a white light and it is deviated towards the base of prism  P2 which is upward. So, the path of emergent ray from prism  P2 is similar to path of incident ray on first prism  P1 as shown in figure1. Prism  P1 is called as dispersing-prism and prism  P2 is called as recombination-prismQuestion Image
