In the winnowing method, the heavier and lighter components get separated by the wind or blowing wind. The hand-picking method separates a large impurity like stones or small pebbles from wheat or pulses. In the decantation process, the heavier component in the mixture settles after adding water and then water along with the impurities and dirt are removed from the pulses before cooking.
