The filament is that part of an electric bulb that glows when an electric current is passed through it. Tungsten is almost exclusively used for the filament of an electric lamp because it has a high resistivity and a very high melting point, which means it does not melt even when heated to high temperatures by the passage of an electric current. However, aluminium is not a highly resistive metal. Hence it can not be used as a filament for the electric bulb.
