The only Harappan site without a citadel or fortified structure is Chanhudaro (Pakistan).
Many of these cities were split into two or more sections. The section to the west was usually smaller but higher. Archaeologists refer to this as the citadel. The area to the east was generally larger but lower. This is known as the lower town. Walls of baked brick were frequently built around each part. The bricks were baked so well that they lasted for thousands of years. The bricks were laid in an interlocking pattern, which strengthened the walls. This civilization's sites are well-known for their civic planning and construction.
