Detailed Solution

Jacobins started wearing long striped trousers to set themselves apart from nobles wearing knee breeches.
A sizable group of Jacobins agreed to start donning long striped trousers similar to dock workers'. It was done to distinguish themselves from the fashionable elements of society, particularly the nobility, who wore knee-breeches. It was a means of declaring the end of the influence wielded by knee-breeches wearers. These Jacobins became known as the sans-culottes, meaning "those without knee breeches." Sansculotte's men also wore a crimson cap, which symbolized liberty. Women, on the other hand, were not permitted to do so. The Jacobin club's members were mainly from the lower classes of society. They were largely a left-wing political organization supported by the French working class. Small shopkeepers, artisans such as shoemakers, pastry chefs, watchmakers, printers, servants, and day labourers were among them. Maximilian Robespierre was their leader.
