Detailed Solution

James Mill classified Indian history into three periods: Hindu, Muslim and British.
James Mill was a Scottish economist and political philosopher. He published a massive three-volume work, The History of British India, in 1817. In this work, he divided Indian history into three periods- Hindu, Muslim, and British. According to Mill, other than Europe, all the countries were less civilised. British rule could civilise India; this was the thought of Mill. Hence, European rules and manners needed to be implemented in India to achieve the goal of civilisation. This periodisation of history is not acceptable today.
