Detailed Solution

Janapadas gained a large area and became Mahajanapada. By acquiring more land, the Janapadas transformed into the Mahajanapadas. In ancient India, 16 kingdoms made up the Mahajanapadas. It was the later Vedic era, which lasted for around 2500 years. When the people (tribes) of this time determined to control their territorial communities, new and lasting zones of settlement known as states or Janapadas arose, giving rise to the Mahajanapada. Sanghas and Ganas were present during the Mahajanapadas period. The capitals of Mahajanapadas were fortified. Among the Mahajanapadas were Magadha, Kashi, Anga, Kosala, Panchala, Avanti, and Kuru.
