Often known as the Hitech port in India, the Jawaharlal Nehru port was established to reduce traffic in the nearby Mumbai port. It is the largest container port in India, located in the Arabian Sea. Named after the two villages, Nhava and Sheva, located near the port, it is also called the Nhava Sheva port. The Jawaharlal Nehru port was commissioned in 1989 and is the second-largest container port in India. It handles about 55% of the container volume. Located in Navi Mumbai, the port can be accessed through Thane Creek. Most of North India and states like Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh use the Jawaharlal Nehru seaport to exchange cargo.
