Detailed Solution

Jhum cultivation was also known as shifting cultivation. In this type of cultivation, small patches of land were cleared so that sunlight could reach the ground. The vegetation on the land was burnt and ashes were spread, which contain potash to fertilise the soils. They just broadcast the seeds and do not plant them. Once the crop is ready, they harvest it and move to other suitable land leaving behind the used land undisturbed for some time. So that the land can replenish its lost minerals sources.
