Johann Gutenberg opened the first printing press in Strasbourg, Germany. He came up with the new technology to address the needs of a reading public who wanted easy access to books. Copying was a time-consuming and laborious process, and its expenses were too high. While the woodblock technique enjoyed wide popularity in different parts of Europe, the invention of cheaper and quicker printing technology was in order. Gutenberg was successful in his attempt, and thus, the new printing press became the answer for cheap and quick printing.
