Detailed Solution

Johann Gutenberg was a goldsmith. Inventor and goldsmith Johannes Gutenberg was living in exile due to political unrest in Mainz, Germany, when he began testing printing in Strasbourg, France, in 1440. A few years later, when he returned to Mainz, the Gutenberg press was an entirely operational and ready-to-use printing apparatus by 1450. Various discoveries and inventions had to be combined to develop Gutenberg's printing press. The printing press, which also had a matrix where the individually cast letters and symbols could be joined to generate the necessary text, was built on the conventional screw press, a precursor of the contemporary drill press. The invention that made it possible for Johannes Gutenberg to print books more quickly is said to have been a set of little metal pieces with raised backward characters that were put in a frame, covered with ink, and then pressed onto a sheet of paper.
