Joseph jogs from one end A to other end B of a straight 300 m road in 2 min 30 s and then turns around and jogs 100 m back to point C in another 1 min. The average speed of Joseph while jogging from A to B is 2 m/s and from B to A is 0.952 m/s.
Question Image Average velocity is defined as the ratio of total displacement to the total time taken.
The displacement for moving from A to B is 300 m and total time taken is,
=2×60+30
=120+30
=150 s
Average velocity will be,
average velocity=300150
                                =2 m/s
When Joseph returns 100m then the total displacement becomes,
300-100=200 m
But the time taken increases to 3min30s which is equal to,
3×60+30=180+30
                         =210 s
The average velocity will be equal to,
average velocity=200210
                                =0.952 m/s
The average velocity of Joseph for jogging from A to B is 2 m/s and for jogging from B to A is 0.952 m/s.
