‘Kadamai’ was land revenue.
The Cholas, who ruled over Tamil Nadu, left behind more than 400 terms for different kinds of taxes. The two most frequently mentioned taxes are vetti, which is paid for with forced labour rather than cash, and kadamai, or land revenue. There were additional charges for thatching a house, climbing a palm tree with a ladder, inheriting family property, etc. These resources were employed in the king's establishment as well as the construction of forts and temples. They were also used to fight wars intended to open up trade routes, capture wealth through looting, and give people access to land.
