Kalangs launched an attack against Dutch Fort at Joana. Kalangs expert hands helped kings build palaces and harvest teak. When the Dutch took control of the forests of Java and its people in the eighteenth century, they wanted these woodcutters to work under them. They forced Kalangs to submit, but the community resisted and rebelled. In 1770, they launched an attack against the Dutch by going for the Dutch Fort at Joana. The Dutch, however, succeeded in suppressing this uprising.
