Kanishka was the most famous ruler of the Kushana. He organised a Buddhist council where the scholars met and discussed important matters. A new form of Buddhism was developed during his rule, known as Mahayana Buddhism. To preach this new form of Buddhism, he was helped by a philosopher named Ashwaghosh. He helped in preaching Buddhism from across the Karakoram Range to China. The trade also flourished during his reign. He developed the silk route. He constructed stupas in Peshawar and established art schools in Mathura that worked in Greek style.
