Detailed Solution

Kaveripattinam was the most significant port of the Chola dynasty.
In addition to having a long coastline, the southern portion of the subcontinent is also characterised by hills, plateaus, and river valleys. The Kaveri River Valley is the most fertile of the river valleys. Strong chiefs and monarchs ruled over the river valleys and the beaches. The Cholas, Cheras, and Pandyas each possessed two centres of power: one interior and one on the shore. The two most significant of these six cities were Madurai, the Pandyas' capital, and Puhar or Kaveripattinam, the Cholas' port.
