By keeping the potential difference constant, if the resistance is doubled then the current changes by a factor of 0.5 times in the circuit.
Initially, let resistance in the circuit be R1, the current I1 in the circuit is:
I1=VR1
Let the new doubled resistance be R2. When the potential difference is kept constant and resistance is doubled then the current I2 in the circuit is:
I2=VR2
Therefore, the ratio of current will be,
I1I2=VR1VR2
I1I2=R2R1
Since, R2= 2R1
I1I2=2R1R1
 I2=I12
Hence, the factor by which the current changes is  12.
