Detailed Solution

King Anangabhima III proclaimed himself as the Deputy of God.
In 1230, King Anangabhima III dedicated his kingdom to the deity Purushottama Jagannathand and declared himself God's ‘deputy.’ Puri in Orissa, is home to the Jagannatha cult, meaning, Lord of the World, another name for Vishnu. In the twelfth century, Anantavarman, one of the most powerful rulers of the Ganga dynasty, chose to establish a temple for Purushottama Jagannatha in Puri. As the temple grew in popularity as a pilgrimage destination, so did its influence on social and political matters. Later, all conquerors of Orissa attempted to seize control of the temple, including the Mughals, Marathas and the English East India Company.
